Book Review: The Highland Dragon's Lady by Isabel Cooper

The Highland Dragon's Lady by Isabel Cooper
The Highland Dragon's Lady by Isabel Cooper
Highland Dragon #2
December 2nd 2014 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
Regina Talbot-Jones has always known her rambling family home was haunted. She also knows her brother has invited one of his friends to attend an ill-conceived séance. She didn't count on that friend being so handsome... and she certainly didn't expect him to be a dragon.

Scottish Highlander Colin MacAlasdair has hidden his true nature for his entire life, but the moment he sets eyes on Regina, he knows he has to have her. In his hundreds of years, he's never met a woman who could understand him so thoroughly... or touch him so deeply. Bound by their mutual loneliness, drawn by the fire awakening inside of them, Colin and Regina must work together to defeat a vengeful spirit - and discover whether their growing love is powerful enough to defy convention.
The Highland Dragon's Lady caught my eye because the protagonist, Colin MacAlasdair, is a dragon. I love dragons, so I really wanted to read this book, although I didn't read the first of the series.

But I didn't liked it as much as I thought. I did enjoy it, but it was a bit slow for me and I wanted more dragons! It was more about Regina, who also has a paranormal power, and a ghost that lives in her family's house. It has some steamy scenes, but it didn't feel like the characters were really connected. Some of the characters were interesting and I wanted to know more about Colin, but maybe in the other books of the series?

Overall, I did enjoyed it but it isn't a book full of action and dragons, and I expected more of that (maybe for the title or the cover).

Book Blitz + Giveaway: Moonlight in Winter Park by Samantha Chase

Book Blitz + Giveaway: Moonlight in Winter Park by Samantha Chase

Moonlight in Winter Park by Samantha ChaseMoonlight in Winter Park by Samantha Chase
Publication date: November 24th 2014
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
“Moonlight in Winter Park” – A modern-day Beauty and the Beast style Christmas.
All Hope Cooper needed this year was to have the kind of Christmas her family always cherished. But with her parents gone and her only brother having to work, it doesn’t look like it’s going to work out for her. There’s nothing she can do about her parents, but she most certainly can voice her annoyance at her brother’s boss for making him work out of town all through the holidays.
Beckett James hates the holidays and everything that goes with them. They were important at one time, but now the only thing that mattered was his company and it’s continued growth and anyone who worked for him better feel the same way. If not, then they could find employment elsewhere and good riddance. With a major expansion deal on the line, Beckett needs to focus. What he doesn’t need is Hope to come barging into his mountain retreat demanding that her brother come home immediately due to an emergency.
Suddenly it’s two alone in a snowstorm. Two alone for Christmas. And two alone to fight an attraction that had been there all along. Hope soon begins to realize she may have misjudged Beckett while he comes to see that there really is something special and magical about Christmas. But once they leave their private winter wonderland and return to their normal lives, will the magic still be there?
About the author:

Samantha Chase
New York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan's Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40's to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.

When she's not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 25 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

Book Review: Risking it all for Love by Kimberley Montpetit

Risking it all for Love by Kimberley Montpetit
Published October 15th 2014 by Spellbound Books
Ever since her high school boyfriend's death from a car accident three years earlier, Jessica Mason and her hometown of Snow Valley, Montana with all its awful memories have NOT been compatible. Running away to New Orleans on a ballet scholarship, Jessica cringes when she thinks about confronting Pastor John and the community church--she doesn't want to talk about God, not after He took Michael, the boy she was going to marry ever since third grade.

In the local scene of funky New Orleans, Jessica seeks out Madame LaBlanc, hoping Michael will absolve her of her guilt the night of the car accident in a seance, but the spirit world is silent and she fears the grief will drown her.

Finally succumbing to family pressure, Jessica reluctantly returns for Christmas - and the little town of Snow Valley does Christmas BIG. When she visits Michael’s grave in the church yard, Jessica is shocked to meet handsome James Douglas, Pastor John’s nephew, who’s studying for the ministry. No, she is NOT going to be attracted to someone who wants to be a preacher! Definitely not compatible! But James Douglas is unlike any minister-in-training she's ever met. James can not only dish back Jessica’s finely-tuned sarcasm but understands grief all too well, turning Jessica’s world upside down.

Can Jessica forgive herself for that terrible, fateful night? Can she take another risk on love?
I read Risking it all for Love as a part of 'A Christmas in Snow Valley' anthology and honestly thought it wasn't going to be for me. I usually like more the 'bad' boys, but I can say James, being a Pastor and all, was a great character. I wasn't expecting to like him so much! He was fun and patient and what Jessica needed to love again. Also Jessica was a very strong characters, her feeling were so rough and real! She's grieving and feels responsible for the car accident that killed her boyfriend, so it's not easy to write so well about this.

Risking it all for Love ended being one of my favorites holiday romances, it's a clean romance, but not the usual 'too sweet' or unrealistic, It was very emotional, I even shed a tear or two, but really enjoyed it!

Book Review: Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit by Tangerine Toodles and Wednesday Whistlehoot

Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit by Tangerine Toodles and Wednesday Whistlehoot
Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit
Authors: Tangerine Toodles and Wednesday Whistlehoot
Girl detective Ellie and her dog pal Ace will captivate and delight you with their adventures. These hilarious mysteries hook readers from the very first page. Short chapters, engaging characters, fast-paced action, and silly situations make the Ellie and Ace books a perfect fit for readers of the Heidi Heckelbeck, Junie B. Jones, Nate the Great, and Ivy and Bean books.
Ellie is a young girl who wants to be just like her father, a detective. She and her dog Ace enjoy solving mysteries and someday soon they will be famous detectives.

But first, they need to solve the mystery of who is stealing food and toys, and even a stinky shoe!

It was so easy to read about Ellie and Ace. It's a story for only a couple of minutes, with four chapters and some illustrations. At the start of the book there is a introduction for everyone who haven't read the other books, I think this was a great idea because you get the feeling you know the characters. I loved Ellie and Ace interactions, I love dogs and I think their friendship was well written.

Overall, I definitely recommend Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit for the young readers. It's the perfect length, simple to read and it won't bore you. It's a children book but it caught me from the beginning and I wouldn't mind reading more about this girl and her dog adventures.

Book Review + #Giveaway: Sweet Adventure by Penny Watson

Guys! The Klaus Brothers Boxed Set (Book 1-3) only for 99 cents! Amazon | B&N

Sweet Adventure by Penny Watson
Klaus Brothers #3
Published October 27th 2014
Sven Klaus, Chief Toy Designer for Klaus Enterprises, will protect his family at any cost. He's prepared to battle the most threatening adversaries to do it--frost flowers, snowstorms, Yeti. And beautiful tenacious tabloid journalists.

Andi De Luca's reporting career is built on lies--about corrupt politicians, greedy Hollywood stars, and Bigfoot. Now she's determined to uncover the truth about Klaus Enterprises, and she always gets her story. Even if it means revealing her own secret desires to Santa's son.

After all the lies and deception are exposed, will Andi and Sven survive this North Pole adventure? Or will YETI MAKE THEM DEADY?

Penny Watson presents a 45,000-word holiday fantasy romance, #3 in the Klaus Brothers Series. Includes paranormal phenomena, Christmas spirit, and yes...an abominable snowmonster.
I just love Penny Watson's books and Sweet Adventure isn't the exception. I've been dying to read it for so long and it was what I wanted: A fun, sexy and sometimes sweet Christmas romance.

Andi De Luca is a reporter and wants to uncover the truth about Klaus Enterprises. Who works for them? Nobody knows! So she wants to interview Sven Klaus, Chief Toy Designer for Klaus Enterprises.

The problem is he doesn't want an interview, and Andi always get her story. But after feeling attraction at a party, and Andi following him to his home, the North Pole, Sven can't shake her off and maybe he doesn't want to....

Andi may appear cold-heart at first, only interested in the story, but she really is a caring and good person. Sven wasn't sure of that until the end, and I was a little bit mad with him for that but I guess I can forgive him because of his long hair...and the great surprise at the end. I wanted the story to be longer so they could get to know better because at first I thought their romance was going too fast but in the end it felt like what they had was true love and should be together forever.

I love this series, Klaus Brothers, and I'd definitely recommend Sweet Adventure if you are looking for a holiday romance with the exact amount of fun, sparks, sexiness and sweetness.

Book Review: Mistletoe Magic by Melissa McClone

Mistletoe Magic by Melissa McClone
Copper Mountain Christmas #3
by Melissa McClone
Spending a quiet Christmas housesitting and reading novels about hot cowboys sounds perfect to Caitlin Butler. Until a stray kitten brings her face-to-face with Noah, her crush from college. Watching the handsome vet in action melts Caitlin's heart and brings back long forgotten emotions. She would be safer back at the house lost in the pages of a book. But a toe-curling mistletoe kiss tempts her to stay. Maybe she won't be spending this Christmas... alone.

Veterinarian Noah Sullivan isn't a Scrooge, but the Christmas Eve tradition of hanging mistletoe in the clinic's waiting room annoys him. Kissing doesn't belong at the Copper Mountain Animal Hospital. Noah rethinks his position when Caitlin arrives with a stray kitten she found freezing in the snow. All he wants now is to maneuver the pretty preschool teacher under the mistletoe. If he's not careful, he'll wind up on Santa's naughty list.
Mistletoe Magic is a short story companion to the Copper Mountain Christmas series. I haven't read that series, but I decided to read it because it seemed like a sweet and quick story, and free!. Also because one of the protagonist is a veterinarian hehe.

It was a extremely cute and super fast romance. The characters had some history but find each other again years later and with just some kissed decide they are meant to be together. You don't need to read the series to read this story, I actually recommend to read a short story before reading a whole book because that way you will know if you would like the series. In this case Mistletoe Magic was too cute for me, I wanted a little bit more of action, but it's the perfect sweet romance to read with a cup of tea...or coffee....or wine. :P

As head of Snow Valley hospital’s fundraising effort, Paisley Hackett barely has time to organize the craft show, cookie decorating party, and the annual Christmas Ball. What she doesn’t have time for is falling in love with Clay Jett, the incredibly handsome bass player who sweeps into town. She’s been burned by a tourist romance before and, with everything going on, Paisley will have to work overtime to protect her heart from Clay and his swoon-worthy ballads.
Christmas in Snow Valley are six cute and clean romances, perfect for a couple of hours if you want to read something sweet. All of the stories are connected with Snow Valley, a little town where Christmas is not just a date but something special and where people seem to find true love just around the corner. I liked that the stories are a little bit connected because sometimes you get some glimpses of the others characters.

But sometimes the stories were too sweet for my taste and a bit slow (I don't know why but specially Full Court Devotion...). Still, it was nice to read them and good to start the Christmas season. I'd recommend them if you are looking for clean and 'just a few chapters' love stories.
