Book Review: Christmas Angel for the Billionaire by Liz Fielding

Autor: Liz Fielding
Published November 10th 2009 by Harlequin
Lady Roseanne Napier has always been in the media spotlight for her high-profile charity work. Now Annie needs a break from being the “nation’s angel” and for just one week she goes undercover…and immediately runs into trouble in the shape of George Saxon.
Christmas Angel for the Billionaire is a very short holiday romance. Annie is famous and needs a few days for herself, so she plans an escape that not even her family knows about, but it's all messed up when her car brakes in the middle of the road.

George is in the middle of a family crisis, his father is at the hospital and his daughter has been expelled from school. Annie calls to his family's business asking for help, and his daughter makes him help her. Annie and George like each other, but first they need to (quickly) solve their personal problems to have their happy ending.

Annie needs to be more confident and sincere with her grandfather and herself, and leave her Christmas trauma behind. George needs to be closer to his daughter, be a good father, and forgive his own father.

The characters are complex and the story could have been longer, but it's too short and everything happens fast. A couple of pages and kisses after, they were ready to spend their future together. It's not really believable, but it's a cute and innocent story to read in a couple of hours.

Book Review: Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Author: Josephine Angelini
Series: Starcrossed #1
Release Date: May 31st, 2010
Publisher: HarperTeen
Age: Young Adult
How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
You know I love Greek Mythology, so I was very interested in reading Starcrossed.

Starcrossed is definitely a love story. Helen has always been different, and she doesn't like it. But when Lucas and his family comes to town, she discovers she isn't the only one with powers.

Helen's smart and sweet, but I'm afraid she wasn't the kind of protagonist I prefer. I don't know exactly why, maybe she was boring sometimes. But I have to say I liked her more through the book, because she became more interesting.

Her romance with Lucas was what keep me reading. They didn't fall in love at first sight, bit still they fell in love very fast. They were a cute couple, but I wished they were more passionate. I know, it's a YA book, but still! Maybe more kissing?

Sometimes the writing was too slow for me, because I prefer fast reading. But the story was very original and interesting, and I liked the way the author played with Greek mythology and every once in a while there was a turn in the story.

Overall, I liked it and I really want to know what will happen with Helen and Lucas in the next book, called Dreamless.

Book Review: Dragos Takes a Holiday by Thea Harrison

Author: Thea Harrison
Series: Elder Races #6.5
Published November 17th 2013
Age: Adult
The Bermuda Triangle. Pirates. The Peanut. What could possibly go wrong?

Dragos Cuelebre needs a vacation. So does Pia, his mate. When the First Family of the Wyr head to Bermuda for some much needed R&R, it's no ordinary undertaking - and no ordinary weekend in the sun. Between hunting for ancient treasure buried beneath the waves and keeping track of their son, Liam—a.k.a. Peanut, whose Wyr abilities are manifesting far ahead of schedule—it’s a miracle that Pia and Dragos can get any time together.

They're determined to make the most of each moment, no matter who tries to get in their way. And did we mention pirates?

For fans of DRAGON BOUND and LORD’S FALL, passion, playfulness, and adventure abound in this Elder Races novella.
Dragos Takes a Holiday is another novella from the Elder Races series. I was excited to read this one because it's about Dragos, one of my favorite characters (because he's a dragon!), Pia and Liam, their son. They decide to take a mini vacation, to relax, enjoy some family time and also some romance time, and also Dragos can hunt an ancient treasure rumored to still be buried...

I loved this novella, it was absolutely cute! We get to know more about Dragos and Pia's life now that they are parents, and Liam (a.k.a. Peanut) is such a cute little dragon! He's little but already some of his Wys abilities are manifesting, and he's going to be a little naughty boy in this trip. I loved to read the parts when he was thinking (still can't talk), I wasn't expecting that!

It has some romance, not as much as the other books from the series, I wanted more romance! Also it has some action, not everyone wants Dragos to find the treasure, although it was pretty easy for him, but they are going to make Dragos very angry.

Dragos Takes a Holiday is a must read for fans of Dragos, Pia and Liam! I totally recommend it, Liam is growing up to be a very interesting Wyr.

Book Review: The Wicked by Thea Harrison

The Wicked by Thea HarrisonTitle: The Wicked
Author: Thea Harrison
Series: Elder Races #5.5
Published July 2nd 2013 by Samhain Publishing
Age: Adult
The adventure of a lifetime might just end in turmoil, but when it includes meeting your future mate, who gives a hoot?

A Novella of the Elder Races

For a librarian with a focus on rare magic books, Olivia’s new job is a dream come true. She has been hired as part of a team to help manage the safe transportation of the collection of books owned by the Vampyre sorceress Carling Severan. The fact that the library is located on a mysterious island in an Other land only heightens the adventure.

Head of security for the expedition, Sebastian Hale is tired of his rootless life of adventure and finds himself attracted to the calm, beautiful librarian. But he is living a personal nightmare. He has been hit with a curse that is slowly taking away his sight, and he doesn’t know if he will survive the results.

But the powerful feelings growing between them, along with Sebastian’s inner turmoil, take a backseat when they learn there is a traitor lurking among their expedition team. With Elder Races politics and a priceless library on the line, they’ll have to rely on each other to survive the experience.

Warning: When a librarian who likes to nest meets an owl Wyr who has always lived for adventure, their romance won’t just be fly-by-night…
The Wicked is another novella from the Elder Races series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend you to read the series if you like paranormal romance. This time it's the story of Olivia, a human librarian with some magic, and Sebastian, a cursed Wyr.

Both are part of the team responsible for the transportation of Carling Severan's collection of books, which is an important and interesting task for Olivia. Sebastian has to make sure everything goes according to the plan, but of course he wasn't expecting to be intrigued by Olivia so much, and he's dealing with his curse.

As most novellas, it's a quick story. But Thea Harrison knows how to write romance, and even in a short novella as this one, you get to know the characters and even read more about others from previous books! (Grace, Khalil and the children from Oracle's Moon). Olivia and Sebastian make a great couple, I really liked them and enjoyed their romance, without any drama about their mating. They just discovered and accepted each other.

I wasn't too interested in their task, I was more worried about Sebastian's curse. But I really enjoyed The Wicked, not only was a good romance novella, but also got me hooked again in this series!

Book Review: Kinked by Thea Harrison

Kinked by Thea Harrison
Title: Kinked
Series: Elder Races #6
Author: Thea Harrison
Age: Adult
Two opponents must confront the cause of their obsessive fury in the latest Novel of the Elder Races…

As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she’s ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy’s incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own.

To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin’s mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion—culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this book. Aryal, the protagonist, is a harpy with a difficult personality. She's very strong, independent and intense. She doesn't get along well with other people, and she hates Quentin, the new sentinel. She hates him so much that has spent the last two years trying to discover his criminal past and she vows she's going to kill him someday.

Aryal was fun in a mean way, and in this book you get to understand her personality better. She's not a bad person, but she can kick your ass very easily!

Quentin has a better personality, we met him first because he was Pia's friend and now he's a Sentinel. I didn't remember him well, he's a mixed Wyr He doesn't like Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, but he is willing to work for him for Pia's sake. But he hates Aryal, and one day he gets tired of her persecution, they start a fight and Dragos forces them to work together...or kill each other.

I didn't thougth they were going to work together, both of them are very controlling, but wow, they were explosive! Forget about cute, they start a fight and end up making out on the floor and more. Their relationship starts intense like their personalities, but after a while, they start to accept each other and be excited by each other controlling nature.

In the end they were perfect for each other, and I really enjoyed their book. They do have their sweet moments, and I even shed a tear at the end, it was very emotional. Kinked is definitely another great book from the Elder Races by Thea Harrison!
