Waiting on Wednesday #104 - The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick: The Perfect Hope (Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy #3) by Nora Roberts
The Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother are breathing new life into the town of Boonsboro, Maryland, by restoring its historic hotel. And they’re finding their own lives revamped by love. This is Ryder’s story... Ryder is the hardest Montgomery brother to figure out — with a tough-as-nails outside and possibly nothing too soft underneath. He’s surly and unsociable, but when he straps on a tool belt, no woman can resist his sexy swagger. Except apparently Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper of his own Inn BoonsBoro. And though the Inn is running smoothly, thanks to Hope’s experience and unerring instincts, her big-city past is about to make an unwelcome — and embarrassing — appearance. Seeing Hope vulnerable stirs up Ryder’s emotions and makes him realize that while Hope may not be perfect, she just might be perfect for him...

Book Review: Wild for You by Sophia Knightly

Title: Wild for You
Series: Tropical Heat #1
Author: Sophia Knightly
Release Date: November 7th 2011
Publisher: Victoria Koch
Age: Adult
To Love, Honor, and Protect

Detective Clay Blackthorne has his hands full when he promises to safeguard an old college pal’s sister without letting her know what he’s up to. He never imagines that lively Marisol Calderon will knock his socks off and put a ring on his finger—and all at his suggestion! Their marriage of convenience is meant to protect her and Clay doesn’t plan on being hitched for long to the tempting beauty. But the honeymoon sure feels real to him…
Sassy Marisol is used to doing whatever she wants—and right now her plan is to shake up the hot detective’s hard-edged demeanor. But the fun turns to danger when a mystery stalker bent on marrying her marks her as his prey. Temporarily becoming Clay’s wife seems like a practical way to thwart the stalker. But as passion ignites and Marisol falls for the tender heart buried beneath the tough detective’s chest, Clay’s true identity is revealed and she begins to wonder who—if anyone—she can trust…
I downloaded Wild for You free for Kindle a few days ago (I think it's still free), and was surprised by this nice story.

Marisol is an independent woman who owns a beauty salon and loves it. Her life is good except for the mystery stalker who is getting more insistent. Her brother is worried about her, and asks his friend Clay Blackthorne to protect her for a while.

Clay isn't ready to be attracted to his best friend little sister. And he obviously isn't in his right mind when he decided they should get married to protect her, specially after his first marriage was such a failure. But he wants her to be safe, and better if he can do it while sharing a few hot nights together!

I liked Clay and Marisol. Their romance wasn't forced, but I think Marisol was too trusting with Clay, specially having a stalker after her. The mystery was a little bit overdone, the kidnapping made my eyes roll and it was kind of obvious who was responsible, but in the end it was a very nice romance, perfect to read in just one night.

Book Review: Destined by Jessie Harrell

Title: Destined
Author: Jessie Harrell
Release Date: November 15th, 2011
Publisher: Mae Day Publishing
Age: Young Adult
When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.
As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.
Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.
I'm familiar with the Greek mythology story of Psyche and Eros, so Destined was on my radar from some time ago. Finally I read it, and it's definitely recommended.

Psyche is a young lady who is 'cursed' with being the most beautiful girl in Greece. Her family is happy and is looking for a husband for her, but her beauty may not be enough. It isn't enough to save her from an horrible destiny.

It's has been a while since I read YA, and at first Psyche seemed  a little bit immature to me. But she's sweet and very confused, and she doesn't want her life to be chosen for her. I loved to see her change from that young girl into a brave woman.

Eros, or Cupid, is an entirely different character. I wasn't very attracted to him, he was mean and it was a mistake that he fall in love with Psyche at first. I wanted him to fight more for her, to give a little bit more of himself, specially in the ending. But it worked for both of them.

Overall, Destined is a must if you like Greek Mythology. It's a sweet retelling of Psyche and Eros, and I was glad to find a protagonist who was capable of saving herself and her love, and her beauty was forgotten in the middle of it.

Book Review: Runaway Heart by Claudy Conn

Runaway Heart by Claudy Conn
Author: Claudy Conn
Release Date: September 24th 2012
Age: Adult
Spirited Chelsea decided she’d sooner run away to London than return to her vain and selfish guardian, Aunt Augusta.
But in her wildest dreams, she never imagined her dear godmother would arrange a Season—or convince the ton’s most eligible bachelor to take her under his wing.

Lord Wainwright was a handsome rogue who was not interested in coy games and missish airs. He expected a country mouse with no polish, but instead he found a thoroughly engaging minx, and was oddly irritated by all the male attention she received.

Chelsea with her unspoiled eye saw beyond Wainwright’s pursuit of hedonism to the intriguing man underneath. But to her shock, it appeared his heart belonged to her horrid Aunt Augusta!
I downloaded Runaway Heart free from Amazon (I think it's still free), and it was a nice surprise!

Chelsea is a spirited young lady, who has been forgotten by her guardian Aunt Augusta, and she won't take it anymore. She decided to run away to London with her best friend, but she never thought she her godmother would take her under her wing and arrange a Season for her.

Chelsea starts as a very naive girl but soon learns to flirt, and Lord Wainwright, her godmother's nephew, helps her to find her way in the society. She's intrigued by him, and he, who of course is not interested in love, can't stop thinking about this young woman.

Runaway Heart is a sweet love story, very dramatic in the end with a not very surprising kidnapping. But still, I really enjoyed it, it was fun to see Chelsea grow up and this cute couple to fall in love.
