Only for Books Lovers: GoneReading

GoneReading is all about cool products for book lovers as us. But the interesting part is, they donate all of the profits to help fund libraries and reading-related charities. I think they products are amazing, but more amazing is they make it possible for people to read. So I though, why not give them a little help by promoting them on my blog?

I visited their website and spend like half an hour gawking at the products. These are my favorites:

Waiting on Wednesday # 92 - Lord's Fall by Thea Harrison

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick:

Lord's Fall (Elder Races #5) by Thea Harrison
In the latest Novel of the Elder Races, two mates find themselves on different paths, torn between their duty to the Wyr and the passion that binds them...

Before she met Dragos, half-human half-wyr Pia Giovanni was alone and on the run. Now, she's mated, pregnant and heading south to repair the Wyr's frayed relationship with the Elves. Being separated from Dragos is painful, but for the good of the Wyr demesne they need to figure out how to be partners, in more places than just the bedroom.

In New York to preside over the Sentinel Games, Dragos is worried about his mate, but knows that finding two replacement sentinels is essential to show the rest of the Elder Races just how strong and brutal the Wyr demesne can be. But as the games heat up, Pia's negotiations with the Elves take a turn for the dangerous, straining her bond with Dragos and threatening everything they hold dear...

The Elder Races has become one of my favorites series, and I really want to read this one. It's interesting that the couple of the first book, Dragos and Pia, are protagonists again. But I'm kind of worried about the little...

Book Review: Slide by Jill Hathaway

Book Cover Slide by Jill Hathaway
Title: Slide
Author: Jill Hathaway
Series: Slide #1
Release Date: March 27th, 2012
Publisher: Balzer + Bray for HarperCollins
Age: Young Adult
Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.
I think Slide was my first YA book read this year, and I really enjoyed it!

Vee is interesting. She's narcoleptic and fall sleep pretty easily when she doesn't want, but also, she slides. When she's touching an object someone connected, she slides into them and see what they are doing. It's pretty cool but also very disturbing, because usually people is doing personal stuff, like kissing or taking a bath, and Vee has to see everything.

But it's an interesting ability when you are trying to discover who is behind the murder of Sophie, a sweet girl who was best friend with Vee's sister. Police says it was suicide, but Vee knows she was killed...

I thought Slide was refreshing, original and I really liked that Vee was the protagonist of this story, not the romance. She's brave and strong. BTW, there is romance, but a very normal teenager romance. But there were so many other important aspects of the story, like who is really the killer (I suspected from everyone), or what is Vee's father hiding, or Rollins's secrets...

Overall, I really liked Slide. The twists were amazing, and I kind of connected with Vee. I only wished the ending wasn't so rushed, and I wanted more explanations. Why? I was surprised, and it isn't easy to surprise me. So yes, I recommend it if you want to read a good mystery.

Book Review: A Kiss in the Wind by Jennifer Bray-Webber

Title: A Kiss in the Wind
Author: Jennifer Bray-Webber
Series: Romancing the Pirate #2
Release Date: March 26th 2012
Publisher: Carina Press
Age: Adult
Marisol Castellan is in trouble-again. Against her pirate father's orders, she snuck off their ship to intercept a message meant for a rival captain, one that offers a clue to the whereabouts of her estranged brother Monte.

Pirate captain Blade Tyburn is not pleased to find the letter he's been waiting for is missing. He's even less pleased when he discovers the thief is a raven-haired beauty who bewitches his senses and muddles his thinking. The note gives the location of a silver-laden ship that'll make his fortune; Blade must find it, and if that means bringing Marisol along on the voyage, so be it.

Marisol believes Monte sails on the very ship Blade is to meet and strikes a deal with the handsome rogue. If he will give her passage to her brother, she will give him the exact location he needs. And both will get more than they expected...
First book I read about pirates, and I want more!

Marisol Castellan is looking for her brother Monte. Everyone says he's dead, but she doesn't believe it. So she intercept a message for another pirate, captain Blade Tyburn, to possible locate her brother's ship.

Pirate captain Blade Tyburn is not happy when his messenger is found dead, or when he discovers the beautiful lady he was protecting from other men is a thief. She stole one of his most precious treasures, and he expects her to pay.

Pirates are definitely a new interest for me. I wasn't sure I'd like them, but I can see myself liking a strong captain with a big ship :D Blade is an alpha male, everyone respects him and yes, he's hot. He was very stubborn and rough, but I knew from the moment he appeared in the book that he had a soft heart.

I liked Marisol. She was too stubborn but very strong, having survived her unforgiving father. She really loved her brothers, and she was very brave while trying to find one of them. I also liked that she wasn't totally good, she liked to steal things...it's a way for her to feel good.

Marisol and Blade are an explosive couple! When they were together, it was hot! But I was happy Marisol found someone who really cared about her and that Blade opened his heart.

Overall, I'm glad I pick A Kiss in the Wind as my first pirate book. I didn't like that men were too rough sometimes, like Marisol's father, who even beat her, but I still enjoyed the story.

Book Review: Much Ado About Rogues by Kasey Michaels

Title: Much Ado About Rogues
Series: Blackthorn Brothers #3
Author: Kasey Michaels
Release Date: March 20th 2012
Publisher: HQN Books
Age: Adult
Meet the Blackthorn Brothers—three unrepentant scoundrels infamous for being mad, bad and perilous to love.Who is the darkly handsome Don John "Black Jack" Blackthorn? With his air of mystery and menace, the whispers about him hint of highwayman or government agent or even dark prince. But no one knows what it is Black Jack does…or how dangerous he can truly be. Now Jack's mentor has disappeared, and Jack must track him down before it's too late. His unlikely help: the man's daughter—the very woman Jack had once wooed and betrayed.Lady Tess Fonteneau knows more about the fine art of clandestine activities—and about the mysterious Mr. Blackthorn—than he realizes. As their journey leads them on the adventure of a lifetime, their reunion is fraught with passion, high-stakes danger and the one twist of fate Jack never saw coming….
I loved the previous books from the Blackthorn Brothers series and I was really waiting for Jack's book. He had a lot tell, an this book probably answer all of the questions.

Tess and Jack were in love a couple of years ago, but after an accident in which her brother was murdered, they separated. But now they are together again, and their attraction hasn't disappear. But can they forgive each other?

They just had to decide to stop hurting each other and work together, and now they have a very good reason to do it. But between their romance, it's the story of Tess's father, a manipulative and evil man who doesn't care about using his own family to get what he wants.

I liked Tess and Jack, but this book was more about them figuring out their past and the people who just want to hurt them. Tess's father wasn't the man she thought, and his story is connected with Jack not only because he was his mentor, but also because their is a connection with his mother.

I wasn't expecting more story about Jack's mother. I just thought his parents were secondary and I was surprised to found out their 'real story'. But I didn't care much about Tess family story...and the first half of the book was about it, so I was kind of getting bored.

Overall, I did enjoy Jack's story and I am happy and surprised for the happy ending for all of the brothers, but I was expecting something a little bit more romantic. But, Jack and his brothers are fantastic protagonists, and I'm glad I read this series.

Book Review: Gentlemen Prefer Nerds by Joan Kilby

Title: Gentlemen Prefer Nerds
Autor: Joan Kilby
Release Date: March 12th, 2012
Publisher: Carina Press
Age: Adult
Self-professed nerd Maddie Maloney is an expert on jewels. Jewel thieves are another matter entirely! So when a mysterious Englishman warns her that a thief known as The Chameleon is after the rare pink diamond on display in her aunt's shop, she tells herself it's just a joke. Even if she can't get Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome out of her mind...

But Fabian Montgomery doesn't give up easily. He's everywhere she goes, convinced the thief will strike. And when the diamond does go missing-and Maddie is suspected of stealing it-he whisks her away from the police and together they pursue The Chameleon.

Fabian plunges her into a glamorous world far from her humble workshop and transforms geeky Maddie into a sophisticated siren capable of espionage. Her mission: to seduce The Chameleon and steal back the diamond.

But Fabian isn't telling her everything-like who he works for, and why he's so interested in The Chameleon...
I was really excited when I got this book from NetGalley, I liked the title and I was wondering how that sexy man from the cover fell in love with a nerd.

Maddie Maloney is an expert on jewels and she was the one who discovered the Rose, a heart shaped and pink diamond. The Rose it's going to be on display at her aunt's shop, but a few days before she's warned by sexy Fabian Montgomery that someone is trying to steal it.

Fabian Montgomery has his own reasons to stop the thief, but when the diamond is stolen, he's going to get it back, even if he has to use Maddie.

Gentlemen Prefer Nerds was a fun book. Maddie wasn't really my type of protagonist, she was very intelligent but too clumsy, and transform herself from being a total nerd to a sex kitten. I think I liked her more as a nerd. Fabian is easy to like, he looks perfect and you can imagine him as a James Bond, but I didn't like his 'past love' always there, kind of ruining the picture.

It was light story, fun and with lots of action, but in my opinion, there was something missing, specially in Maddie's and Fabian's relationship.

Book Review: A Rogue By Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean

Title: A Rogue By Any Other Name
Series: The Rules of Scoundrels #1
Author: Sarah MacLean
Release Date: February 28th, 2012
Publisher: Avon
Age: Adult
What a scoundrel wants, a scoundrel gets . . .

A decade ago, the Marquess of Bourne was cast from society with nothing but his title. Now a partner in London’s most exclusive gaming hell, the cold, ruthless Bourne will do whatever it takes to regain his inheritance—including marrying perfect, proper Lady Penelope Marbury.

A broken engagement and years of disappointing courtships have left Penelope with little interest in a quiet, comfortable marriage, and a longing for something more. How lucky that her new husband has access to such unexplored pleasures.

Bourne may be a prince of London’s underworld, but he vows to keep Penelope untouched by its wickedness—a challenge indeed as the lady discovers her own desires, and her willingness to wager anything for them . . . even her heart.
It's official, Sarah MacLean is my favorite historical romance writer!

Penelope and Bourne were friends when they were young, but Bourne was cast from society, and Penelope eventually had to forget him. But by random chance, they found themselves together after she inherits one of his past proprieties, the one he's going to get even if he has to marry her.

I adored this book. Bourne was yummy and Penelope was fun. It's one of those books where you connect with the characters and understand their motives, and want them to be together forever. Bourne is stubborn and obsessed with revenge, but Penelope has suffered a broken engagement and still believes in love. Their connection was inevitable, and together they were on fire, but they had to overcome Bourne's revenge wish and Penelope's suspicious heart.

A Rogue by Any Other Name is definitely one of those books I'd love to re-read, and of course I'm waiting for the sequel 'One Good Earl Deserves a Lover'. I'm sure Penelope's sisters have a lot more to say, and maybe share their story with Bourne's best friends.
